Jim Malone

Jim was the Scottish Labour Party candidate in the North East ward by-election that took place in May of this year following the death of Brian Gordon, the well-known and much-respected Labour councillor for the North East ward.

Although Jim did not win the by-election that followed , he increased the Labour vote significantly , and saw the SNP vote fall markedly.

Below is an extract from Jim's by-election leaflet :

I have lived all my life in the North East of the City, I was brought up in Linlathen, went to school at St Vincent’s, Craigie High and St Saviour’s.

I served my time as a painter and decorator .

I then joined Tayside Fire Brigade, serving for 30 years in the service.

I am an active trade unionist having been a member of UCATT and I am still working in a role for the Fire Brigades Union. (FBU)

I was elected Secretary of Tayside FBU and in 2009 elected Scottish Organiser of the union.

I have lived in Mill O’ Mains for almost 40 years, I have served the community as Chair of Mill O’ Mains Tenants and Residents Association.

I have campaigned on local bus services and community amenities.

I am an executive member of Dundee Trades Union Council and am currently North East Labour Branch Chair.

As Labour Party candidate, I received the endorsement of the local branches of the CWU, Unite, GMB, NUJ and Unison (Police Staff)

If elected I will represent the communities of the North East ward with dedication and with a commitment to halt the devastating cuts inflicted upon our vital public services by the Tories and Nationalists.

Give me your vote and I will fight for you, your neighbours and our community.
